FAQ about Exploring Mexico

Yes, Mexico is safe to visit. We have several posts about safety in Mexico, but most top tourist destinations are extremely safe to visit!

The more time you have the better! Mexico is huge and even after a year and a half of exploring we have so much still to discover. If you’re doing a short trip to one city/destination, four to seven days should work. However, if you want to go to multiple cities/regions I’d recommend two to four weeks minimum.

Where to spend your vacation depends on what you want to do on your trip. Mexico is extremely diverse with mountain retreats, natural hot springs, charming beach towns, colonial cities, pueblo magicos, and everything in between.

It’s helpful to know some basic Spanish when traveling Mexico. We share some tips here on how we learned Spanish.

We’re not huge resort people and prefer charming small beach towns over all-inclusives. So rather than Cancun and Cabo (although their beaches are gorgeous), we recommend visiting places like La Paz, Todos Santos, Hualtulco or Puerto Escondido or Mahahual.

Our top 3 favorite places in Mexico are Mexico City, Oaxaca, and the Baja California Peninsula (specifical Baja California Sur). But honestly, everywhere is incredible!
